selene
PERSONALITY Selene's personality seems to go well with her large and formidable appearance, though she is perhaps not as menacing as she can sometimes seem. The she-cat started out as an impressionable and loyal little cat, one who seemed to subconsciously desire another cat to follow and devote her life to; at first, this was her sister Luna, but soon she found herself following Stryker instead, and her personality and values were soon shaped by his. Because of this, she is a rather serious and sometimes harsh individual, one who is willing to do anything her leader orders her to do. This willingness is also in part of her aforementioned loyalty. Above all things, Selene values loyalty - higher even than morals or her own personal feelings. While she isn't necessarily an evil cat, and she might even be described as soft and kind at heart, she is first and foremost eternally loyal to Stryker, and would not dream of betraying him, at the very least not until he betrayed her first. Though often carrying out particularly dark orders can make her feel remorseful or guilty, she doesn't question her leader, and will simply try and make things as merciful as she can while still doing as she is told. Sometimes, in the rare case of executions, this might simply be her murmuring an apology to the cat in question - before killing them without hesitation. But just because she feels remorse and can be kind does not make Selene a good cat either. While she cares about those who are close to her, it can be sometimes hard for someone to get close to her at all; she is a very closed off and outwardly stoic cat, and does not make friends very easily. Above all, she cares for those that she should feel loyalty to - in this case, Stryker and their group - and not really anyone else. Her main priority is their safety and wellbeing - though Stryker's orders come above even that, as she trusts him without fail. That said, Selene has one weakness - the young and the sick or elderly. The one order she would refuse from her leader would be to kill a kit - though she would try to be as diplomatic about it as she could. Deep down, the she-cat has always wanted kits of her own, though with her life as dedicated to Stryker as it is, that doesn't seem likely in the future. Instead, she expresses these subconscious desires through her extreme gentleness towards kittens, and she always takes an interest when a very young cat is brought into the group - or even advocates her allowing them in, if the decision is unsure. As far as the sick and elderly, they simply remind her of her mother, and some buried scrap of still-burning guilt causes her to want to care for them, at least more than she normally would. HISTORY Selene was born into a litter of just three kittens - two she-kits and a tom - to a loner mother named Nimble. Nimble's mate had disappeared just a quarter-moon before the kits' birth; she always told her kits that he must have been captured by Twolegs or killed by a passing rogue, but Luna, the oldest kit and Selene's sister, would always whisper that he must have just left. Though Luna could sometimes be a sharp-tongued cat, even at such a young age, Selene looked up to her greatly, and she would always follow her around like a shadow. For the first five or so moons of their kithood, life was good; though food could be scarce, they survived, and there was no trouble to be heard of. It was during their sixth moon that everything changed. The weather grew unexpectedly bad, and prey become almost impossible to come by. Selene's brother, Apollo, left his family to become a kittypet, unwilling to put up with the hardships they were facing as loners. But without the extra paws to help hunt, and Nimble falling very ill, Selene and Luna began to find it hard to hunt even for themselves, let alone their mother. It wasn't long before things began to look truly grim for the three of them. One day, when the two young cats were trying to hunt and had not eaten in two full days, Luna successfully caught a rabbit - plumper than anything they'd seen in a while, and just enough for both of them to be truly full yet again. She convinced Selene that they should eat it and use that strength to catch something for Nimble. However, they could find nothing else that day, and so their mother went hungry; Luna assured Selene that it would be fine, and they would simply bring her something as early as they could the next morning. But Nimble didn't make it to morning. Sickly and starved, she had died in the night, and Selene was devastated. She wailed her grief and remorse to the sky - but her sister, Luna, was overcome by feelings of guilt and they surfaced instead as anger at her sister. Luna cursed her for being weak and attacked her, driving her from their home and telling her to never come back in a fit of rage, though she likely did not truly mean the words. Barely a moon after Stryker became leader of his loner group, the half-starved and injured young she-cat was found by some of the group's members. And yet despite how weak and hurt she was, she had potential - powerful muscles were visible even in spite of her half-starved frame, and she was already large for her age, with sturdy, long legs and huge paws. Realizing this potential, Stryker allowed her to join his group, and began to corrupt her slowly with his 'kindnesses' and lessons of loyalty even as she regained her strength. Eventually, Selene grew into a huge and powerful cat, and one whom would protect her leader with her life. Regardless of whatever decisions he made, she always supported Stryker - for he had saved her life, and earned her eternal loyalty and gratitude. And perhaps some part of her had always looked up to and admired her, perhaps even loved him, ever since he had taken her in. Because of her formidable size and skill in fighting and her unwavering loyalty, Selene soon became Stryker's second in command - and also a sort of 'bodyguard' for him, always there to make sure that if any cat were to attack him, they would soon pay a steep price. And when there are cats to be punished, Selene is also there, ever loyal and willing to carry out her leader's orders, no matter how dark they may be. |
