lakeheart
PERSONALITY Lakeheart is somewhat of an enigma - the cat with two faces, both pleasant and petty all at once. Despite being somewhat reserved by nature, she is still outwardly pleasant towards her Clanmates - whenever she does speak up. For the most part, however, she is quiet, usually preferring to listen to others rather than talk. Lakeheart's quietness in part comes from her calculating personality - she seems to consider everything she does and says very carefully before she acts. This isn't entirely just because she is afraid of treading on any tails - she is motivated, instead, largely by ambition, and no cat ever got anywhere by being brash and rude to others, so she has resolved to be as unassuming and pleasant to her Clanmates as she can be to further her own goals. She is loyal to her Clan and often supports battle as a solution to border skirmishes and the like - but her loyalty is more to the concept of honor and glory, linked with her own ambitions, than to her Clanmates themselves. This isn't to say she does not care for her Clan - she simply considers her own ambitions the most important thing, and loyalty to her Clan the second. Reserved and slow to truly trust anyone, Lakeheart attempts to hide this fact around others and act as supporting as she can at all times. She is somewhat selfish and, as mentioned, very ambitious - she dreams of one day becoming deputy or even leading the Clan, and is somewhat uninterested in any bonds deeper than friendship as a result. HISTORY Lakeheart was born the largest in a litter of five sickly kittens in the middle of a very harsh storm. Her mother and littermates - and even Lakekit herself - were afflicted with greencough, and it wasn't long before both her mother and three of her littermates had all perished to the illness. Miraculously, Lakekit and her brother Adderkit survived the ordeal, and both were always somewhat spoiled by both the Clan and their father, Talonfoot, as a result. As a kit, Lakekit was not nearly as reserved and cool as she would one day be - though her somewhat selfish and ambitious personality was already surfacing - but she soon found herself hardened by grief; only one short moon after she and Adderpaw became apprentices, her brother, who had always been especially small even for a WindClanner, was taken by a hawk while out on patrol and never seen again. Talonfoot seemed more devastated than even Lakepaw was - and she soon began to wonder if her father had wished that she, bratty and sharp-tongued as she was at that age, had been taken instead of her more level-headed and kind-hearted brother. She did not wonder for long - just a few moons afterwards, her father vanished suddenly, thought by many to have left the Clan in his grief. After losing the last family member she had left, Lakepaw devoted her life to her ambitions entirely, and became more withdrawn and serious as the moons passed. She had not even been a warrior for two seasons when she discovered she was expecting kits. Frustrated at the thought that her ambitions might be 'ruined' by having a family, and at the fact that the kits' father did not claim them as his own, she resented her kits, who she named Ospreykit and Brackenkit, for most of their kithoods. Ospreykit in particular reminded her of her own brother, small and serious, and some part of her perhaps was afraid to grow attached to him at all, for fear that he would end up the same way Adderpaw had; it did not take much for her to begin to shun him especially once it became clear that Brackenkit had a greater destiny. As Brackenkit showed more and more promise, she grew fonder of him, feeling proud at last to have mothered such a promising kit - and pushing Ospreykit away in the process. |
