brackenpaw
PERSONALITY Compared to his energetic brother, Brackenpaw might seem calm and laidback - though he's hardly a voice of reason between the two of them. Instead, his calmness comes from his somewhat dreamy personality; he often seems to have his head in the clouds, and he can be a little oblivious - though when it matters most, sometimes he can show surprising insight. Loyal and hardworking despite his lack of a consistent attention span, he also has a knack for herbs, surprising as it might seem when one considers how distant his mind can sometimes be. So far, at least, this is a lot more potential and less actual skill, as he still has a lot to learn, especially about focus - but the potential is there, and he doesn't often forget an herb once he's learned about it. Although he can often tend to be absorbed in his own world, Brackenpaw truly wants more than anything to help others - the reason he chose the path of a medicine cat in the first place. In spite of his obliviousness to some things - or perhaps because of it - he has always been more in tune to the emotions of others (when he pays attention to them) and, despite how distant he can sometimes appear, cares deeply about the feelings of his Clanmates, especially his brother. Despite this, he is a little on the antisocial side - he's the type to observe from afar and offer help or advice only when it's asked of him, though he is happy to give said help, simply because he is introverted by nature. Because of this reservedness, he has trouble making any friends, and so far the only cat he truly has any close bond with is his brother - he isn't even very close with his own mother, despite her fussing over him ever since he was chosen as a medicine cat apprentice. Brackenpaw, despite his caring nature, can sometimes be quick to judge others when they do wrong - the reason for the lack of closeness with his mother, who he sees as a selfish and scorn-worthy individual on account of the way he has seen her treat his brother, Ospreypaw. Though he does care a lot for his Clanmates, even if he may not so easily befriend them, he is also blunt and to the point about his misgivings regarding them - if at any point a cat loses his respect for whatever reason, such as his mother (and it is hard to regain Brackenpaw's respect), he will not hesitate to tell them exactly what he thinks of them, should they ever ask. (Though, because of his antisocial inclination, he might never approach them himself about it.) Brackenpaw is also a bit of a pacifist at heart, more likely to advocate for rational solutions to a problem than simply resorting to violence. HISTORY Brackenpaw's best friend - and only friend, really - has always been his brother, Ospreypaw, who he was raised alongside ever since the death of their other littermate soon after their kitting. Brought up without a father to be spoken of, and with a mother who, in their early moons, seemed to regard her own kits with disdain, the two kits grew very close, and remained close even as they grew older and their paths began to branch off from each other. Brackenkit, though always bigger and stronger than his more sickly sibling, discovered his penchant for herbs at about 3 moons old, and was always spending a lot of his time around the medicine den afterwards - his mind had apparently been made up. Instead of a warrior, Brackenkit wanted nothing more than to become a medicine cat. It was then that his mother, Lakeheart, suddenly seemed to take interest in her kit - after all, who wouldn't be proud to be the mother of such a promising young cat? As a result, her distance with Ospreykit suddenly seemed to double; there was no room for him at all in her heart anymore, it seemed. Brackenkit had always been somewhat airheaded and oblivious, but even he soon noticed how she was treating his sibling; after he was apprenticed, he decided that his only priority from then on would be the Clan and his brother - not his mother, as he had lost any respect he had for her. Even now, when she fusses over him, he does his best to just ignore her; he has better things to do with his time, after all, than spend time with the mother who rejected Ospreypaw. |
